Sony and Facebook are the Names to Beat in Affordable Mainstream VR

When it comes to virtual reality two companies are seriously taking over the market. Namely, Sony and Facebook. Of course Facebook, the social network doesn’t have much to do with virtual reality directly. Facebook, the company, bought Oculus, which is now one of the top VR companies to beat. Facebook and Sony weren’t always on top. Their first headsets were expensive, tethered and bulky. However, in this new round of devices put out, Sony and Facebook wizened up. They each put out untethered devices that are lighter and more self contained than their previous products.

The Oculus Go is one of their most popular products put out recently. It’s a standalone headset that does not require the use of a mobile phone or anything like that. The best part is it only costs $200. They are also giving consumers a more powerful option with the Oculus Quest, which will cost $400, still cheaper than other headsets out right now.

Sony has found success with virtual reality headsets that are compatible with their PlayStation gaming console. You can get just the headset for around $300, but you can also get it with a whole lot of bells and whistles for up to $500. These accessories include a camera; controllers and you can even get a bundle with a couple of games. They have created bundles that make it a one-stop for everything you need for an amazing virtual reality experience.

Even though the numbers on actual virtual reality headsets sold aren’t stellar, experts expect that revenue from VR and extended reality products is going to increase by at least 500% by the year 2022, which is just 3 years from now!
