Buy a VR headset. That’s it… not as easy as it sounds right now though. The situation in China has caused a global semi-conductor and all round tech gizmo shortage as the factories and other elements of the supply chains have been hit by mass quarantines and office shutdowns.

Oculus Quest / Go
We wrote an initial review of the Oculus Quest when it launched during 2019. Since then it went on to take nearly 50% of the VR headset market the same year and continues to offer a perfect combination of ease of use, competitive pricing and full 6 Degrees Of Freedom (6-DOF) required to support fully-immersive VR gaming experiences.
Pros
- Creates a fully-immersive VR experience on a standalone headset
- Responsive controls and full 6 Degrees Of Freedom
- No additional hardware required.
- Passthrough cameras support safer use in smaller spaces
Cons
- Existing titles for the Oculus Rift & Oculus Go won’t work.
- Processing speeds not as high as with a tethered/PC setup.
HTC Vive
We originally reviewed the HTC Vive back in 2018 and came to the conclusion that it provided the most immersive gaming experience out there at the time with a massive library of games. The partnership with HTC and Steam being a key differentiator from their competitors.
Pros
- Valve Steam… the best VR App & Game store
- Intuitive controls
Cons
- A little on the expensive side…
- It’s a tethered setup so you’ll need a PC with a fast GPU.
PlaystationVR (PSVR)
We also reviewed the Playstation VR back in 2018 declaring that for anyone with a PS4 it was the best way to get their first taste of VR.
Pros
- Cheap (if you have an existing PS4 or PS4 Pro)
- Tethered/PC-quality performance
- Great selection of games
Cons
- Need additional cameras and controllers
- Headset fits poorly on some people
- Motion controller tracking needs improving
