Ralph Breaks the Internet but Not the VR
Ralph may have broken the internet but he is streaming and fully functional on virtual reality. The latest Disney hit, Ralph Breaks the Internet, featuring the lovable character Wreck-It-Ralph who wrecks everything he touches, has hit the VR experience at 7 locations of The Void. It’s a location based VR experience called Ralph Breaks VR. With the interactivity in the headsets and the location itself, it’s a next level experience that is even more immersive than using VR at your house.
The game has basically been in development side by side with the movie. Game developers got to see early concepts for the film to start developing the game as a companion. In the experience you go into the virtual world with Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz, his petite sidekick, in order to save the day. The experience includes the use of high powered VR devices, hand controllers and haptic vests that give you bodily feedback for an even more realistic experience. The headsets track your eyes so while you are in the virtual world you can tell where other characters are looking which helps with expression and communication.
Users pick their character before the game, and the avatars are pretty realistic. The speech recognition technology analyzes what you are saying as you say it, so your mouth more or less matches what you’re saying. It’s an 11-minute experience full of mini-games and plenty of fun for everyone. This one is a great family friendly to experience this technology.
The only downside is that it’s location based and the experience is only available in Anaheim, Santa Monica, Glendale in California, Las Vegas Nevada, Edmonton Alberta, Toronto Ontario and Orlando Florida in addition to West Plano Texas. If you don’t live near these areas, it may be worth it to travel for the experience.
