Magic Leap is Making Leaps in Fundraising
Magic Leap is one of the top VR companies around. They are also one of the best-funded startups in the history of startups. Well, now their outlook has just gotten even better. They have partnered with the Japanese phone provider NTT DOCOMO, through an investment from the Japanese company. It is a sizable investment that will likely lead to a lot of opportunities for Magic Leap! Worth $280 million, the investment solidifies Magic Leap’s spot as DOCOMO’s official telecoms partner in Japan. In a similar fashion, Magic Leap also has an exclusive contract with ATT in the US.
This is all part of Magic Leap’s plan to dominate the world’s AR offerings. They basically want to create a global AR network and this brings them one step closer. With a membership base of 70 million people, DOCOMO plans to expand their offerings using Magic Leap technology. They predict that it will be quite popular because AR is a bit more accessible to the average person than VR since it can work with their devices that they already have and doesn’t require them to get fully immersed in a different world. They can just use the real world but it will just have some adjustments and augmentations to it that can be quite helpful.
Magic Leap is also going to customize their operating system for the Japanese company to make it easier for Japanese developers to use and make exciting new products for the Asian market. This partnership proves that even the biggest companies including international telecoms giants are preparing for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in a big way. They all want to offer them to their users and big things are coming.
