Which Oculus Is Right For You?
Oculus is one of the top virtual reality companies at the moment. They are owned by Facebook and were one of the first to come out with a functioning consumer headset for VR. Now they have three headsets available for consumers and each one has a different benefit or reason that you might want it. It just depends on your lifestyle and what you want out of a VR experience.
Oculus Rift
Oculus Rift is the original product from Oculus. It needs a PC to work. You connect the headset and get going. The headset is light enough that you might kind of forget it is even there while you are immersed in another world. It comes with two intuitive and comfortable to use hand controls so you can control your experience. The binaural sound makes each experience even more realistic. There are already tons of games, apps and products available for Oculus Rift as it has been on the market for a while. It even features a cool looking dashboard that lets you do anything you can do on the computer in VR. This set will run you $349.
Oculus Go
Oculus Go is Oculus’ all in one device that doesn’t need to attach to anything to function. As of right now there are two different options that have different storage options. So far the device isn’t lacking in apps – there are over 1,000 to choose from, plus a web browser that allows you to access anything you want that’s available through that. It’s really designed to be an on-the-go device so there are no cords, no syncing or anything annoying that has to happen to make it work. They start at $199.
Samsung Gear VR
Samsung Gear VR may seem like something that is by a totally different company, but it actually uses the power of Oculus behind it. You can use it with your Samsung Galaxy smartphone to create amazing VR experiences. This headset works with a limited number of devices including the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, Note 8, S8, S8+, S7, S7 edge, Note5, S6 edge+, S6, S6 edge, A8 and A8+. Plugging one of these phones into the device gives access to a range of Gear VR games and apps that currently includes over 1,000 experiences. So with this one, it’s all about your smartphone. You can buy the headset on it’s own for $129, or get it with a $39 controller or a $59 gamepad for gaming enthusiasts. The experience is pretty great for something that is powered by a tiny little phone. So this one is for those who already have a Galaxy and would like to use it for this purpose.
